Automatic Impairment Rating is a computer
program that rates impairments according to the
2005 California law for workers' compensation
injuries. It is used by doctors, lawyers and claims
people to calculate the whole person imapirment
rating (WPI) for single or multiple body parts and
then adjust that rating for Future Earning Capacity
(FEC), age, occupation and appointment for a final
permanent disability value. The program is uniquely
suited to California's new rating system because
it breaks the impairment rating down into
individual body parts when adjusting for
permanent disability, allowing for the variations in
FEC values of the different body parts.
