QuickLaw Error:
“QLOPEN has detected the following error: Can’t open data base ‘qryCaseDocuments’. It may not be a Quicklaw DataBase or the file may be corrupt.”
This is a problem with the Documents Database called OLEOpen.MDB. The error message is telling you that the data in the file is corrupt.
Try # 1: Run the QuickLaw File Fix utility and turn on the checkbox next to the OLEOpen.MDB file on the "Repair" side. If this executes properly and does not report any errors then your problem has been fixed (and most of the time this will do it).
Try # 2: Occasionally we get reports that the FileFix utility cannot repair the OLEOpen.MDB file... it is corrupted beyond repair. If that happens you must copy the OLEOpen.MDB from your latest backup tape (or other device) into your QuickLaw shared data folder... overwrite the existing OLEOpen.MDB. You will lose all of the document that you added since the last backup, but at least you have most of your data back.
Try # 3: If you don't have a backup, or if the file on the backup is also corrupted then you have no alternative but to DELETE the OLEOpen.MDB file and replace it with an empty copy of that database (click here to download the empty OLEOpen.MDB). This will cause you to lose the copies of all the letters and forms that you have created in the past, however, the entry in the Case Documents screen that you actually did them (the date, name of the document, person who did it, etc.) will remain in QuickLaw. You will be able to see that you did the document, you just won't be able to view it. .That's the worst case scenario.
The OLEOpen.MDB database stores all of the Word documents and Court Forms as OLE data inside the database. It was an unfortunate decision on our part to choose a database to store this data, as the file can get huge and start causing problems. It is best if you constantly close and purge your old case files from your open QuickLaw database so this won't happen.
And ... ALWAYS PERFORM NIGHTLY BACKUP OF YOUR QUICKLAW DATA!!!
